January 5, 2016 – No word yet from Chicago police about three people shot at a hotel in Streeterville on Sunday, other than all three have gang affiliations and none are cooperating with investigators.

It happened at the W Hotel on North Lake Shore Drive at about 2:15 a.m. A 25-year-old man was standing outside the hotel when someone got out of a dark SUV and fired shots at him, striking him several times, according to police. He was taken three blocks west to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition. The shooter got back into the SUV and sped away, westbound.

After the first man was shot, and possibly inside the hotel, a 32-year-old man was shot in the head and a 30-year-old man was shot on the left side of his abdomen. They went by taxi to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center about four miles away, one in critical condition, the other in stable condition.

On the social media website Reddit, a witness who says he lives in the area says he was awakened by eight gunshots. When he looked out his window, he saw a tow truck operator help the first victim into the truck and take him toward Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Then, he says, “there were three guys getting into an SUV right next to the victim and drove down the one-way street in the wrong direction and pulled into the W, where other victims were also shot.”

It is not clear where the victims were located when they were shot. Another witness says two of the gunshots were inside the hotel.

Pete Demay, general manager of W Hotel, owned by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc., said in a statement…

Pete Demay We are thankful that no registered guests or our talent were injured in the incident during the night, as most of the events occurred outside the hotel. We have been working closely with the authorities throughout their investigation. As this is an active investigation, we are unable to provide further details and any additional information must come from the Chicago Police Department.
