Goldberg exhibit to focus on architect’s personal collection

August 17, 2011 – The day before the exhibition on Bertrand Goldberg opens at Chicago’s Art Institute, another exhibition – at The Arts Club of Chicago in River North – will share the architect’s personal collection of art and artifacts.

Photo by Don Bronstein (Left) Bertrand Goldberg (1913-1997) at about age 54, in front of artwork in his office at Marina City in 1967. This portrait was captured by noted Chicago photographer Don Bronstein (1926-1968).

Bertrand Goldberg: Reflections, according to a news release, “examines the sources of and influences on Goldberg’s vision by looking at his personal collection of art and artifacts, his friendships with artists and intellectuals, his personal photographs, and his designs for furniture, jewelry, and functional fabrications, to provide an understanding of the man behind the public image.”

The exhibit was designed and installed by Chicago architects John Vinci and Bertrand’s son, Geoffrey Goldberg. Vinci’s work includes the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame, The Arts Club of Chicago, and several award-winning residences. Geoffrey Goldberg teaches architecture at the University of Illinois and has received awards for design and planning.

Reflections will open on September 16 and run through January 13, 2012. Architecture of Invention will open at The Art Institute on September 17.
