October 9, 2014 – What it lacked in square feet it made up for in depth. River North’s most historically comprehensive architectural art gallery is closing after 16 years of making the cream of the architectural art crop accessible to the general public.

David Jameson says his ArchiTech Gallery will close on December 31.

“Health, expense, and time seem to have collided for this closure,” says Jameson. “Stay tuned for my future plans, though.”

Since opening on the second floor of 730 North Franklin Street in December 1998, the gallery has exhibited the work of an eclectic variety of architects, artists, and projects. It is one of only a few commercial galleries in the world specializing in archival architectural drawings, renderings, photographs, and original prints. Items have gone on to museums and private collections throughout the nation.

One of the gallery’s most popular and recurring shows featured the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, drawing on Jameson’s large collection of images related to the architect’s work. Wright is featured in the gallery’s current and final exhibition, running through November 29, along with Daniel Burnham and Louis Sullivan.

Before he opened ArchiTech Gallery, Jameson was manager of Kelmscott Gallery in Chicago’s Lincoln Square neighborhood.
