Marina City food drive ends Monday

March 1, 2009 – Monday is the last day of a food drive being organized by the new owner of Marina Management Corporation.

Brian Muir is collecting non-perishable food for Lakeview Pantry, one of the longest-lived food pantries in Chicago, according to its web site. It began operating in 1969. In 2003, the pantry merged with Lincoln-Belmont Pantry, resulting in two locations.

Lakeview Pantry distributes more than one million pounds of food each year to individuals in need on the north side of Chicago.

Muir says he has collected 600 pounds of food so far and the east residential tower has donated 25 more pounds than the west tower. His goal is 1,000 pounds of food.
