Fitness room still being considered for 20th floors

September 23, 2008 – Residential property manager David Gantt says 400 residents, evenly split between owners and renters, responded to the August 8 survey seeking feedback on a proposed fitness room, and responses were ten-to-one in favor.

Gantt estimates it would take six months to build and cost $130,000, which would be covered by reserves.

Buildings & Grounds Committee Chairman Robert Abell says, “it’s not a slam dunk that we’re going to go ahead and do the fitness room,” but he says MTCA is looking into costs and logistics.

The fitness room would be built in space currently used for storage on the 20th floors of each residential tower. The laundry room would be upgraded and rearranged to make extra space. Laundry equipment is 7-8 years old and, says Abell, will eventually have to be replaced anyway.

The Buildings & Grounds Committee met for 55 minutes on Thursday. It was an informal meeting to discuss interior remodeling of public areas of the residential property.
