Arrest in smoky fire set on Red Line platform

January 19, 2015 – Setting a green recycling bin on fire on the CTA Red Line platform at North & Clybourn got a 19-year-old man arrested and charged with felony arson.

Chicago Police Department Chicago Police say Ivan Corona-Gutierrez (left), who lives west of the Loop in the 2200 block of South Kildare Avenue, was charged in the January 6 incident.

In Central Bond Court on Saturday, prosecutors said that after Corona-Gutierrez set the recycling bin on fire shortly after midnight, he then fanned it with a bag before boarding a train. With effort, the fire, which filled the area with smoke, was extinguished and there were no injuries.

Corona-Gutierrez does not have to wait in jail for his next court appearance but he must wear an electronic monitoring device.
