19-Nov-18 – A community of business-owning families organized by Loyola University Chicago’s Quinlan School of Business has named a River North company its Family Business of the Year.

Cushing, a commercial printing company located near Chicago Avenue & Franklin Street, was selected from four finalists in the small business category.

The award, presented on November 15 at Four Seasons Chicago, “recognizes companies with a strong commitment to both business and family,” according to Loyola’s website.

“Cushing possesses all the qualities we see in the best of family businesses,” said Anne Smart, director of the Loyola Family Business Center. “They balance enterprise sustainability with innovation and a commitment to their employees and the communities they work and live in.”

This year’s finalists included Daprato Rigali Studios of Chicago, A. Perry Homes of Wilmette, and Batavia Enterprises of Batavia, Illinois, about 40 miles west of Chicago.

Cushing started as a blueprinting company one month before the stock market crash of 1929. The company produces printing and display graphics for businesses.
