Falk recovering from cornea transplant surgery

October 26, 2010 – Vincent Falk says he was told a cornea transplant operation “went well” on Tuesday. The downtown celebrity was in a recovery room at UIC Medical Center by 7 p.m., his left eye heavily bandaged.

A retina specialist was on hand in case something went wrong during surgery but was not needed. The specialist will examine Falk on Wednesday morning. That is when Falk will know how much his vision has improved.

He will remain at UIC overnight and possibly a second night.

UPDATE – On Wednesday, Falk reported some improvement to his vision, “but not what I was hoping it would be. It’s still dark and there’s a little bit of fogginess.”

While the new cornea did help, Falk says he was told his retina would have to continue healing for his vision to improve further.
