February 18, 2014 – A second hotel north of the Loop is involved in a lawsuit over claims of a faulty elevator.

Sara Wiese says that on February 10, 2012, she was in an elevator on the 12th floor of the Doubletree by Hilton Chicago Magnificent Mile when it dropped about six floors, stopped suddenly, and returned to the 12th floor.

She is suing for $50,000, claiming serious back and neck injuries.

The lawsuit was filed on February 7 in Cook County Circuit Court against the 500-room Doubletree at 300 East Ohio Street and Kokua Hospitality LLC, the Chicago company that manages the hotel. A status hearing is scheduled for May 27.

A former housekeeper at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile says she was in an elevator at the Michigan Avenue hotel on August 1, 2013, when it fell 14 stories and stopped abruptly.

Juana Herrera is suing Otis Elevator Company, the manufacturer of the elevator, for $50,000. The lawsuit was filed in Circuit Court on October 18, 2013.
