November 15, 2009 – The bar of food discounts to Marina City residents has been raised by Dick’s Last Resort. Marina City’s newest commercial tenant is offering residents a one-time 50 percent discount on Saturday brunch.

General Manager Richard Fulgham says a new brunch menu inspired the discount. Last November, 400 residents took a newly-opened Dick’s up on its offer of free food and drinks over two hours on a Monday evening.

This time, the restaurant wants to stagger the offer over four weeks. Residents of lower floors in the east tower were invited to brunch on Saturday. Remaining residents can take advantage of the discount as follows:

  • East tower, floors 41-60 – November 21
  • West tower, floors 21-40 – November 28
  • West tower, floors 41-60 – December 5

Brunch is served at Dick’s on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Residents are asked to bring a piece of mail to verify their address.

Dick’s already offers a 15 percent discount to Marina City residents. Other commercial tenants offering discounts to residents are 10pin Bowling Lounge (20 percent off food, 50 percent off bowling), Amano Italian Trattoria (15 percent off), BIN 36 Chicago (15 percent off), and House of Blues Chicago (see below).

Dick’s celebrated its one year anniversary at Marina City on October 30. In June, Fulgham estimated his restaurant serves between 8,000 and 9,000 people in an average week, and said sales were up “considerably” from the previous year when they were located at 435 East Illinois.

The Chicago location is still owned by Dallas entrepreneur Steve Schiff, who sold his company, DLR Restaurants, and six other Dick’s locations to a group of investors last year. The group, which includes Logan’s Roadhouse co-founder Ted Moats, has an option to buy the DLR at Marina City that will expire next June.
