Divers on duty at Riverwalk

September 23, 2014 – On the Chicago Riverwalk, work continues on installing forms into which concrete will be poured. Some of these forms are intentionally underwater and require divers. Last week, a third diver crew was added, according to Chicago Department of Transportation.

This week, crews should finish pumping water out and backfilling crushed stone into areas that will support the new Riverwalk from State Street to LaSalle Street.

They will continue installing drainage structures as well as forms for walls, stair footings, planters, and the concrete cap over the sheet piles.

And they will continue installing the pre-cast concrete structure under the south leaf of the Dearborn Street Bridge that will connect a stretch of the Riverwalk called Marina Plaza to The Cove.

Work is from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. Construction equipment engines start at 6:30 a.m.

Loop North News has filed a Freedom of Information Act request for information related to construction delays this year and the project’s overall budget that CDOT has refused to provide despite months of polite requests.
