No surprises in condo board election

April 30, 2011 – With seven incumbents running unopposed for seven seats on the condo board at Marina City, the only suspense was seeing how many people would vote and which of the winners would get the most votes.

Only about one-third of approximately 900 unit owners voted in the April 25 election, and many of them likely did not vote themselves but instead gave up their vote to a proxy.

Donna Leonard Board president Donna Leonard (left) received the most votes (32.24%), followed by Harold Bellamy (30.45%), Ellen Chessick (30.35%), Dr. Michel Louvain (30.05%), Phyllis Hartford (29.95%), Gautier Laude (29.47%), and Peter Desch (29.21%).

At the 34th annual meeting of Marina Towers Condominium Association, all seven incumbents were elected to two-year terms. Picker and Associates, a CPA firm, certified the results.

On Marina Watchdog, the blog for residents of Marina City, a unit owner who was at the meeting said Dr. Louvain did not attend and his candidate statement was read by board president Donna Leonard.

“Another nail biter of an election,” mused the unit owner, “but early polling did show that all incumbents were winning.”
