Marina City bank robbed

March 11, 2009 – The Marina City branch of JPMorgan Chase was one of three banks robbed in Chicago on Tuesday. The FBI believes the same suspect also robbed the branch in December.

It happened at about 3:12 p.m. According to the FBI, a black male entered the bank, approached a teller, and displayed a handgun. He announced a robbery, got an unknown amount of cash, but as he left the bank a security dye pack activated. Cash was reportedly blowing around on North State Street.

The man fled the area on foot. He is described as 6’2” tall and a heavy build. He is suspected in another robbery that day at MB Financial Bank on North Sheridan Road.

There were no injuries.

According to crime data from the Chicago Police Department, the Chase branch was previously robbed on December 5, 2008 – also at about 3:15 p.m. – by a suspect with a handgun. FBI Special Agent Royden Rice says the same suspect was involved in both the December robbery of the Chase branch and Tuesday’s.

Prior to December, the previous robbery at the Marina City branch was on November 23, 2007. That incident was classified as a “strongarm robbery” but there was no weapon.
