The real-life power couple returns to their Chicago roots this summer to star in the world premiere of Iceboy!

– Emmy Award winners Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally will return to Chicago this summer to star in the premiere of a new musical comedy at The Goodman Theatre.

Set in 1938, Iceboy! follows legendary diva Vera Vimm (Mullally) as her career is upended by a 40,000-year-old caveman discovered in the Arctic. As the “Iceboy” thaws and becomes the toast of the town, he steals the spotlight and captures the imagination of iconic playwright Eugene O’Neill (Offerman).

The creators describe the show’s vibe as “All About Eve...if Eve were a caveman,” referring to the 1950 film about a scheming fan who worms her way into the life of a Broadway stage legend.

Both Offerman, known for Parks and Recreation and The Last of Us, and Mullally, who played Karen Walker on Will & Grace, worked in Chicago theater early in their careers. Offerman made his Goodman debut in 1994.

“We are thoroughly excited to bring the heat of our marriage back to Chicago, the city where we both cut our theatrical teeth many years ago,” said Offerman and Mullally in a joint statement. “Although we were hoping to mount a Tennessee Williams title [Cat on a Hot Tin Roof...we think], city officials reminded us that Chicago has developed an historical aversion to catching on fire and so we have agreed to this considerably less spicy but hilarious new musical called Iceboy!

Directed by Marc Bruni, the musical runs from June 20 through July 26, 2026, in the Goodman’s Albert Theatre, 170 North Dearborn Street. Tickets range from $44 to $164.
