Serving the Loop and Near North neighborhoods of downtown Chicago
Langham’s outdoor café opens Thursday

May 12, 2014 – The Langham’s take on casual waterfront dining will open on Thursday.

Elle on the River has been constructed over the past three weeks on the south side of AMA Plaza, where the luxury hotel is located. The café will serve lunch and dinner Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.

A news release on Monday invited guests to Elle to “casually nosh on Mediterranean-style tacos and sip from flavored cocktail punch bowls while enjoying its spectacular city views.”

Elle on the River The tacos (left) will be made from chickpea flatbread. Fillings will include chicken, mahi-mahi, and pork. They will be priced at three for $9, six for $16, or 12 for $30.

Also offered will be a variety of “Ellies,” a combination of mousse, custard, and a “cake-based dessert.”

In addition to wine and beer, the specialty beverage will be flavored cocktail punch, mixed and served tableside in bowls.

“The boozy punches are offered in a variety of flavors including Down by the River with Bacardi Oakheart, raspberry, cherry, and banana, Elle a Noir with Grey Goose, cherry noir, strawberry, basil, and peach, and Better Than a Bradford made with Tanqueray, watermelon, lemon, and basil.”

The design by London-based Richmond Designing Hospitality makes use of light fabrics, table lanterns, floor lighting, and materials, says Elle, influenced by the 52-story building that was the last major work of architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.
