15-Jan-18 – A man was robbed at gunpoint on a CTA train in the Loop – on a Sunday afternoon – though the robber was caught moments later.

The 21-year-old CTA passenger was sitting in an L train as it approached the Washington/Wells station when, according to Chicago police, 20-year-old John Peralta came up from behind with a handgun and demanded money. Peralta ran off the train when it got to the station but, within minutes, police tracked him down about two blocks away near the corner of Wells and Randolph Streets.

Chicago Police Department The incident happened around 4:40 p.m. on January 7.

Peralta (left) was charged with two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon. A judge ordered him held without bail. Police say the robbery victim was not injured.

Woman with stun gun charged in theft on State Street

A 23-year-old woman with a stun gun was charged in three incidents between December 26 and January 10, two of which were on State Street in the Loop.

Police say on December 26 at about 8 p.m., T’Keyah Herbert entered a department store on State Street just north on Monroe, grabbed merchandise from a display, and fled without paying. On January 9 at about 3 p.m., according to police, she returned to the store with a stun gun but left it behind when confronted by a security guard. The next day, she allegedly stole merchandise from a department store on North Clybourn Avenue after threatening employees of that store with the stun gun.

Promotions in central police district

Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson has announced two promotions in the 1st District that covers the Loop. Michael Pigott will take over as commander, replacing Robert Klich, who is retiring. Pigott, a graduate of FBI National Academy, has been with CPD for 26 years and is currently a captain in the 1st District.

Replacing Pigott will be Lieutenant William Clucas, Jr., a 22-year member of CPD. The promotions take effect on February 1.
