Chicago On The Cheap

17-Sep-16 – Smith & Wollensky has eight locations nationwide and one in London but due to renovations, Chicago will be the only place to enjoy the restaurant group’s annual Wine Week.

The week can be enjoyed over lunch for three days only, September 21-23. Get a tasting flight of eight premium wines for $25 with the purchase of a lunch entrée.

Visiting wine representatives will pour and educate about featured selections while you expand your wine palate and indulge in USDA Prime steaks, premium seafood, and more from their seasonal menu.

Wine Week featured labels include Duckhorn Vineyards, Jordan Vineyard & Winery, La Jota Vineyards, Nickel & Nickel Winery, and Paul Hobbs Wines.

A portion of Wine Week proceeds will benefit Big Shoulders Fund, an organization that provides support to inner-city schools in Chicago.

Lunch at Smith & Wollensky is served from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Reserve your table now as space is limited and reservations fill up quickly.

Wagyu & Wine at The Capital Grille

Now through November 20, enjoy the distinctive Wagyu burger of your choice in the lounge at The Capital Grille in Streeterville. Red wine goes well with Wagyu and is available by the glass. Choose from three burgers paired with two wines rarely available by the glass, a 2013 Duckhorn Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon or a 2013 Goldeneye Pinot Noir.

The Capital Grille (Left) The rich flavors of Wagyu, accented by Havarti cheese, come together with the smooth yolk of a fried egg. (Click on image to view larger version.)

Get one of these pairings for $25 (not including tax and tip) during this limited engagement. Since a decent glass of wine costs around $14 this is a great deal. Reservations are not required.

Sale at Eataly through October 9

I love Eataly but prices can be steep. If I’m going to dine in or just walk by, I’ll look around for sale items which are sometimes placed directly across from the main entrance or on the second floor, on a display next to the elevators. Now they’re having a Saletember sale through October 9.

Pick up a list of sale items at the information desk on the first floor. Different items will be on sale each week. Limit three of each item per customer.
