26-Oct-16 – You still must walk up flights of steps just to get onto the bridge to Illinois Street – that leads to Navy Pier – but at least now there are better signs directing Riverwalk visitors to those stairs.

New pedestrian wayfinding signs were installed, according to 42nd Ward Alderman Brendan Reilly, in response to tourists often getting lost on their way to Navy Pier. In addition to the Riverwalk, signs were installed near Michigan Avenue & Lake Street, Michigan Avenue & Randolph Street, and Randolph Street & Field Boulevard.

“This route is complicated due to the multi-level infrastructure in the New Eastside neighborhood as well as ongoing construction detours,” wrote Reilly in his weekly newsletter to constituents.

At Reilly’s request, Chicago Department of Transportation determined where the signs should go but Navy Pier paid for the signs, both their production and installation.

Additional signs will be installed as necessary, says Reilly.
