23-Oct-16 – It has been 108 years since the Chicago Cubs have won the World Series, and a River North restauranteur keeps seeing that number – so much that he says the supernatural writing is on the wall and the Cubs will win this year.

Grant DePorter, CEO of Harry Caray’s Restaurant Group, founder of Chicago Sports Museum, and author of the 2008 book, Hoodoo: Unraveling the 100 Year Mystery of the Chicago Cubs, has compiled a list of Cubs connections to the number 108 that at the very least are remarkable coincidences.

“Everywhere you look, it’s 108. You just can’t get away from it,” says DePorter (right).

It takes 108 outs to win the National League Championship Series and 108 outs to win the World Series, says DePorter. The distance from both the left and right field foul poles to home plate at Wrigley Field is 108 meters. Cubs pitcher Jon Lester was born in Tacoma, Washington, the 108th largest city in the United States.

Sports Advantage Spalding baseballs used by the National League have 108 double stitches. Albert Spalding, co-founder of A.G. Spalding sporting goods company and the first manager of the Chicago Cubs, had an office at 108 West Madison Street.

Planned Development 108 in the City of Chicago is a parking lot at Wrigley Field.

The lawsuit that allowed night games at Wrigley Field is recorded in Volume 108 of Illinois Reports, the official reporter of the Illinois Supreme Court.

The 1989 film Back to the Future Part II and the 1990 film Taking Care of Business feature the Cubs winning the World Series and both movies, according to Internet Movie Database, are 108 minutes long.

The World Series trophy is made of silver, which has an atomic mass – if you round to the nearest integer – of 108.

Even Thursday’s win over the Los Angeles Dodgers had a connection. It was the 108th victory for the Cubs, who scored ten runs and won by eight.

Harry Caray’s is named for the Hall of Fame Cubs baseball announcer. DePorter published his original list on September 22.
