Silent salutes in River North to honor heroes of 9/11

11-Sep-16 – (Above) Chicago Fire Department Commissioner Jose Santiago (saluting at far left), Mayor Rahm Emanuel, 30th Ward Alderman Ariel Reboyras, 42nd Ward Alderman Brendan Reilly, and crews of Engine 42 fire station in River North observe a minute of silence at 7:46 a.m. on Sunday, the 15th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

“Our Chicago fire fighters answered that call also,” said Emanuel. “It wasn’t our city but it was our country. It wasn’t their fellow residents but it was their fellow citizens.”

Flags are at half-mast for the next three days at police and fire stations throughout Chicago.
