23-Mar-17 – Osteria La Madia will bid “an appreciative Arrivederci” on Saturday.

The Italian restaurant, a ground floor tenant of the Remien & Kuhnert Building for eight years, announced the closing on Wednesday.

“Our lease was up and while we’ve had a great run, we felt it was a time to move forward and focus our energies on building our Firecakes Donuts brand,” said Jonathan Fox (right), founder of Osteria La Madia. “We will continue our restaurant consulting business, 3Sixty, and look forward to new opportunities in the future.” Jonathan Fox

The restaurant had just renovated and expanded its menu two years ago, changing its name from La Madia. Osteria La Madia says it was the first notable Chicago restaurant to serve “authentic wood-fired Neapolitan-style pizza.”

Said Fox, “Our goal was to create a modern Italian restaurant that would allow Chicagoans to thoroughly enjoy a contemporary Italian experience, and we are pleased that we made so many people happy. We were always very serious in adhering to the subtle details that make Italian food so outstanding, but we never wanted to take ourselves too seriously.”

The restaurant will close following dinner service on Saturday evening.
