7-Nov-16 – There did not seem to be much disbelief that a one-story Apple store could cost $62 million but according to a corrected building permit, the store being built along the Chicago River by Power Construction Company will cost a mere $26 million.

First issued on October 28, the permit said it would cost exactly $62 million to build a 91-foot-long x 71-foot-wide x 20-foot-tall retail space addition to 401 North Michigan Avenue.

On Friday, a revision to that permit was issued, noting a construction cost of $26.953 million.

South walls of the Apple store will rise 42 feet above an expanded walkway along the north bank of the river. Stairs will lead from a 14-foot-high glass enclosed entrance on the plaza of 401 North Michigan Avenue down to a 20,000 square foot concourse.
